Why ASV?
ADDICTION SOLUTIONS VICTORIA – WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT?
Addiction is a chronic, relapsing brain disease characterised by compulsive drug seeking and use, despite negative, harmful consequences.
NIDA (National Institute of Drug Abuse).
For many people, recovering from addiction to drugs and alcohol seems impossible, out of their reach. They fear risking their family’s financial stability, having to leave home and employment and putting all their life plans on hold while they seek help. This is especially true for people living in regional areas.
ASV can support people to make dramatic positive changes to their lives while living at home, continuing with their everyday lives and maintaining their relationships with their family and community. ASV staff will also provide advice and support to family members. The ASV program is evidence-based, affordable and successful.
The ASV service offers professional, experienced staff, including a Specialist Addiction Medicine Practitioner and a specialist addiction psychologist, and a program based on Danya’s Living in Balance; this program has been evaluated and endorsed by the American Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Living in Balance is also registered on the list of evidence-based programs and practices (NREPP).
‘We breathed a sigh of relief when we saw the positive way my brother responded to Jason at their first session; within an hour, he was ready to try something new - recovery. We’d been looking for something like ASV for months, we couldn’t afford those private programs, and the waiting list to get into public programs was so long—he would have had to give up his studies and move away from his partner and new daughter. My brother just got on with his new life—and we could access help on the phone when we needed it. I was grateful for the support for families. I have a new life too.’
Sister
Many people have been using drugs and alcohol for years, slowly losing the things that are important to them, and sometimes they can barely recognise themselves.
The ASV staff support people in addressing their use of drugs and alcohol wherever they live, developing a vision of a new life, developing practical recovery plans and helping mend broken or stressed relationships. We know recovery is an ongoing long-term journey through change, and we offer assistance, helpful information, aftercare and linkages with community and private resources that help people every step of the way.
ASV’s packages are designed with individuals in mind. We meet people in their homes; when appropriate, we work with their families; we offer affordable services based on a researched and credentialed program. We are now in Geelong and South-Western Victoria. We can help you now.
ASV Incorporated, a registered not-for-profit organisation, offers people available, affordable, practical and successful support. Our Board is committed to helping the community and believes that recovery is possible for everyone.
HELP IS AVAILABLE NOW
‘Throughout my 16 years in the alcohol and drug treatment field, I wanted to provide something different, practical, affordable, and something I believed in. I found all of that in ASV and the Living in Balance program. My fellow staff members and I meet new people every week, have the privilege to learn about them and their families and have the pleasure of seeing them take a chance on themselves and recover. We are happy to be available to people in Geelong and South-Western Victoria.’
